Princeton Baptist Medical Center Expansion

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

The Princeton Baptist Medical Center East expansion includes 90,000 square feet of new construction and 60,000 square feet of renovations. The project, designed by TRO JB, includes a new lobby, chapel, 16 Operating Rooms, a 30-bed One Day Surgery center with prep and recovery suites, 6 endoscopy procedure rooms with associated prep and recovery areas, a state of the art central instrument processing department, and 2 classrooms. This expansion strengthens Princeton Baptist’s surgical technology, including an operating suite with a new Zeego robotic C-arm Imaging System, the first fully serviced hybrid OR in the state of Alabama. The project cost is $57 million.

Princeton Baptist Medical Center’s expansion necessitated the relocation of many hospital departments which were required to be maintained in uninterrupted operation. This added a level of complexity and sensitivity to the construction process, timed to the level of implementation in 28 phases. This complexity was navigated successfully by close teamwork between the architectural project team at TRO JB, the quality General Contractor Brasfield & Gorrie and Program Manager KLMK, along with the dedicated involvement of key hospital personnel. From day one, this project team functioned as a well-oiled machine working together with common purpose, determination and skill towards a successful outcome.

This month, Princeton Baptist Medical Center held a grand opening ceremony for their new expansion. Visitors to Princeton Baptist will now be welcomed to the 90-year old institution by a bright new lobby space and chapel which serves as its central focal point. The exterior of this element elegantly communicates the hospital’s identity and faith-based mission while the interior provides a welcoming, calming space for patients and visitors of all faiths. Remaining renovations are underway and are scheduled to be complete in June of 2013.
